Resolve Academy Hosts 19th Annual Damage Control Olympics for U.S. Navy and Coast Guard

By: Resolve Academy

Resolve Academy, a leading provider of maritime training, recently held its 19th annual Damage Control Olympics on April 29. The event, which featured shipboard firefighting and vessel flooding exercises, was specifically designed for officers and crews from the U.S. Navy and U.S Coast Guard who were visiting Port Everglades during Fleet Week Fort Lauderdale. Teams from the USS New Hampshire, USS New York, USCGC Tampa, and USS Cole enthusiastically participated in the competition.

Organized by Resolve Marine and its training division, Resolve Academy, the Damage Control Olympics serve as a gesture of appreciation to the courageous men and women who protect our nation at sea. This event has become a highly anticipated tradition for service members, offering them the opportunity to showcase their skills, learn from their peers, and strengthen camaraderie with their fellow crewmates.

The thrilling competition took place at Resolve Academy’s cutting-edge training facility within Port Everglades, onboard the T/V Resolve Vision, a mock training vessel measuring 150 feet in length. The facility is equipped with state-of-the-art firefighting and damage control simulators that replicate real-life scenarios, including confined spaces, low visibility, live fire, intense heat, and water ingress. Teams engaged in timed, practical exercises and shipboard emergency response simulations, such as navigating through smoke-filled environments, conducting search and rescue missions, and managing a flooded ship chamber. Participants benefited from valuable training in a competitive setting, allowing them to demonstrate their emergency response capabilities.

Following a day of intense competition, the USS New York emerged as the victor of the 2025 Damage Control Olympics. The winning team was honored with medals and a pennant during a closing ceremony.

Expressing her thoughts on the event, Lana Farrell, Executive Director of Resolve Academy, remarked, “It was a privilege to host the vessel teams during Fleet Week once again. The groups exhibited exceptional agility, teamwork, and strategic thinking throughout the simulations. Despite the challenges presented, we witnessed unwavering determination and a collaborative learning environment. We eagerly anticipate hosting this remarkable event each year, and the 2025 edition was no exception.”
