A 300 MW Expansion to Xuwen Offshore Wind Farm in Zhanjiang, China, Begins Commercial Operation
The 600 MW Xuwen offshore wind farm in Zhanjiang, China, developed by State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC), has expanded by an additional 300 MW and has now started commercial operation. The original wind farm was built in two phases with a total of 94 wind turbines. The first phase saw the installation of 47 Mingyang’s MySE6.45-180 turbines, with the entire wind farm being commissioned in late 2021.
The expansion project began in 2023, with wind turbine installation starting in the spring of 2024. SPIC announced that the additional 300 MW went into operation on December 17, marking a significant milestone for renewable energy in the region.
News of the wind farm’s commercial operation was shared by Hengtong Submarine Power Cable, the company responsible for the high voltage inter-array and export cable system, as well as the installation of foundations and the offshore substation. Hengtong utilized its cable laying vessel, Hengtong Cable 5, and crane vessel, Hengtong 3500, to carry out the project.
