Shearwater Geoservices Awarded Deepwater Surveillance Contract by ExxonMobil in Guyana

Norwegian offshore seismic vessel player Shearwater Geoservices has secured a significant contract for a large deepwater 4D OBN reservoir surveillance program from US supermajor ExxonMobil in Guyana. The contract involves a six-month survey set to commence in the first half of 2025, utilizing a Shearwater seismic vessel as the source vessel and a dual ROV vessel for node deployment.

This latest contract follows Shearwater’s successful completion of a 4D towed streamer operation for ExxonMobil in Canada, highlighting the company’s expertise in advanced seismic technologies.

CEO of Shearwater, Irene Waage Basili, expressed confidence in the company’s capabilities, stating, “We see a steady increase in deepwater 4D OBN monitoring activity internationally, and Shearwater is well positioned for this growth.”

ExxonMobil’s Expansion in Guyana

Last week marked significant developments for ExxonMobil in Guyana, as the supermajor submitted an environmental impact assessment for its seventh oil project in the Stabroek block called Hammerhead. The project is slated to include the development of 14 to 30 wells, the installation and operation of an FPSO, and a gas export pipeline from the FPSO.

Upon receiving governmental approval, the Hammerhead project is expected to commence production in 2029 with a crude oil output capacity ranging from 120,000 to 180,000 barrels per day. This venture will further bolster Guyana’s oil production capacity to over 1.4 million barrels per day.

Additionally, ExxonMobil is set to deploy its fourth FPSO, named One Guyana, to Guyana from Singapore. This FPSO will be succeeded by two more FPSOs in the coming years, underlining ExxonMobil’s commitment to expanding its operations in the South American nation.
