Poland’s Crist Shipyard has recently placed an order for six MAN 12V175D variable speed gensets as part of the construction process for an Offshore Support Vessel (OSV) for DOF. The vessel, provisionally named Sea Dragon, is slated to support operations off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada.

Designed by MMC Ship Design & Marine Consulting Ltd. based in Gdynia, the Sea Dragon is expected to be delivered by the first quarter of 2027.

With a length of 110 meters and ice-classed certification, the vessel will be equipped with dynamic positioning class 3 capabilities and have the capacity to accommodate 164 individuals. The Sea Dragon will be engaged in various operations including gas crew changes, drilling support, field-safety standby, emergency towing, and ice management.

Lex Nijsen, head of marine Europe and Americas at MAN Energy Solutions, stated, “This engine set-up will enable the Sea Dragon to perform a great variety of tasks over a wide load-range where characteristics such as seakeeping, responsiveness, and adaptability will be key.”

Florian Keiler, head of high-speed at MAN Energy Solutions, emphasized the fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness of the MAN 175D engine, highlighting its low fuel consumption, low lube oil usage, and long service intervals.

The MAN 175D engine range was developed to complement MAN Energy Solutions’ offerings in the maritime sector. Available in various configurations, the engine is optimized for different types of vessels including ferries, offshore support ships, tugs, and more. It is designed to meet the latest exhaust-gas-emission standards and is capable of running on biofuels like FAME and HVO, with future readiness for methanol operation.
