AET and Fleetzero Partner to Develop World’s Longest-Range Plug-In Hybrid-Electric Vessel
AET, a member of the MISC Group and owner and operator of maritime transportation assets, has recently signed an agreement with Fleetzero, a leading supplier of modular marine batteries for hybrid and electric ships. The collaboration aims to develop the world’s longest-range plug-in hybrid-electric vessel, marking a significant step towards sustainable shipping practices.
As part of the agreement, one of AET’s Lightering Support Vessels (LSV) will undergo a retrofit with a plug-in hybrid-electric system. This innovative technology will enable the vessel to operate primarily on battery power, resulting in a remarkable 82% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional LSVs on a tank-to-wake basis.
The environmental benefits of this initiative are substantial, with an estimated avoidance of 1,220 tonnes of greenhouse gases. In addition to reducing emissions, the plug-in hybrid-electric system will also lead to significant fuel savings and lower maintenance costs, all while upholding high safety standards.
