ABS Approves Hanwha Systems’ Cyber Resilience Solution for Vessels

ABS has recently granted Type Approval for IACS UR E27 cyber resilience requirements to Hanwha Systems for their innovative cybersecurity solution, SecuAider®.

Hanwha Systems’ SecuAider® is a cutting-edge software solution designed to safeguard a vessel’s data and networks from sophisticated cyber threats, including ransomware and malware attacks.

The ABS E27 certification is a vital component of the ABS Cyber Resilience Program, which assesses various digitally enabled systems and equipment, evaluating the security controls implemented throughout the vessel’s lifecycle to bolster the owner’s cyber resilience strategy.

Effective July 1, 2024, IACS UR E26 “Cyber Resilience of Ships” and UR E27, “Cyber Resilience of On-Board Systems and Equipment,” will be mandatory for new ships.

SecuAider® serves as a comprehensive cybersecurity solution that fortifies data and network security. It is seamlessly integrated into the vessel’s network and interconnected with on-board systems and equipment.

Myeong Seob Cho, Naval Business Division Leader and Vice President at Hanwha Systems, highlighted the significance of SecuAider® in enhancing cyber resilience for vessels. He emphasized the system’s ability to defend against advanced cyber threats like ransomware, DDoS attacks, and malicious code infections that pose a growing risk to maritime operations.

Cho added, “SecuAider® offers real-time analysis and control of cyber situations without compromising the performance of the ship’s existing on-board systems and equipment. Hanwha Systems’ state-of-the-art cybersecurity system integration (SI) technology, featuring SecuAider®, not only ensures compliance with E26 requirements but also elevates cyber resilience to a defense standard.”
