Kongsberg Maritime to Design Methanol-Ready Subsea Vessels for Olympic Group

Kongsberg Maritime has recently secured a contract to design and equip two multi-purpose subsea vessels for Olympic Group. These vessels, known as the UT7623 Sustainable Energy Vessels (SEVs), will incorporate cutting-edge technology, including battery hybrid systems and methanol-readiness.

Set to be constructed at the CMHI shipyard in Shenzhen, China, the SEVs are scheduled for delivery in the summer of 2027. These vessels, designed in close collaboration with Olympic, are poised to revolutionize energy efficiency in the maritime industry.

Key Features of the UT7623 SEVs

The UT7623 SEVs will boast a fully integrated package of technology, featuring rim-drive propulsion, hybrid power systems, and advanced winch systems. Additionally, the vessels will be equipped with rim-drive electric azimuth propulsion, retractable azimuth bow thrusters, switchboards, and thruster drives.

Furthermore, the vessels will include hybrid battery power, an integrated bridge system, automation and control systems, dynamic positioning system, tank sounding capabilities, mooring winches, and an overhead ROV launch and recovery system (LARS).

Industry-Leading Efficiency and Performance

Kongsberg Maritime’s expertise as an integrator ensures that the UT7623 SEVs are optimized for advanced offshore operations under challenging conditions. These vessels are designed to excel in both the renewable energy and oil and gas sectors, offering unparalleled performance and efficiency.

Stig Remøy, CEO & President of Olympic Group, remarked, “The UT7623 SEV vessels build on our long-standing experience in renewable energy and oil and gas, offering unmatched flexibility and efficiency. With Kongsberg Maritime’s cutting-edge technology, we are once again delivering vessels that lead the industry forward.”

Per Kristian Furø, Sales Director at Kongsberg Maritime, added, “These vessels represent the latest offering from our extensive ship design portfolio. They are methanol-ready dual fuel, and have a fully electric propulsion system, setting new benchmarks in the industry for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.”

Setting New Benchmarks in Environmental Sustainability

The UT7623 SEVs are poised to set new benchmarks in environmental sustainability, with their methanol-readiness, dual-fuel capabilities, and energy-efficient design. These vessels are designed to meet and exceed the demands of modern offshore operations while minimizing fuel consumption and environmental impact.

Overall, the collaboration between Kongsberg Maritime and Olympic Group on the design and construction of the UT7623 SEVs represents a significant step forward in the maritime industry’s pursuit of energy efficiency and sustainability.
