Solving Energy Challenges with AI-Powered Floating Power Solutions

A groundbreaking collaboration between Dutch floater expert SBM Offshore and US technology giant Microsoft is set to revolutionize the power generation industry. The two companies have joined forces to develop standardized, AI-powered carbon-free floating power solutions that will drive the transition to clean energy.

The primary goal of this collaboration is to expedite the adoption of floating power generation units to address the increasing need for clean, reliable, and dispatchable electricity for electrification and regional grid integration. By leveraging cloud-based solutions, advanced analytics, and AI technology, SBM Offshore and Microsoft plan to usher in a new era of sustainable energy production.

Through the integration of Microsoft’s cutting-edge tools such as Copilot, Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, and Fabric, SBM Offshore’s floating solutions will undergo AI-powered asset lifecycle assessments, real-time carbon measurement, reporting, and predictive maintenance. This innovative approach will not only enhance system reliability and energy efficiency but also reduce operational costs and time to commission, thereby promoting the transition to clean energy sources.

The initial phase of this collaboration will focus on deploying floating gas power solutions with integrated CCS (Carbon Capture and Storage) on the UK and Norwegian continental shelves in partnership with Norway’s Ocean-Power. This deployment serves as a pilot project that aims to establish a blueprint for global expansion, supporting energy security and decarbonization initiatives across Europe, Asia-Pacific, and the Americas.

SBM Offshore and Microsoft’s joint efforts mark a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly energy future. By harnessing the power of AI and cutting-edge technologies, this collaboration paves the way for a cleaner, greener, and more efficient power generation industry.
