Proteus Marine Renewables Secures Seat on Ocean Energy Europe Board

UK-based tidal energy company Proteus Marine Renewables (PMR) has recently announced its new position on the Ocean Energy Europe (OEE) Board of Directors. CEO Drew Blaxland will represent PMR as a Lead Partner, solidifying the company’s commitment to advancing tidal energy technology.

PMR has been at the forefront of tidal energy innovation for over two decades, developing its AR series of bottom-mounted tidal turbines. Their technology has already generated more than 20 GWh of electricity, showcasing its reliability and efficiency.

One of PMR’s flagship projects includes providing offshore services for Scotland’s MeyGen tidal array, a 6MW installation. The company has recently partnered with SKF and GE Vernova to supply an additional 59MW to MeyGen PLC, expanding the site’s capacity to at least 65MW by the end of the decade.

“It is fantastic to see Proteus Marine Renewables take on a more prominent role within OEE,” said Rémi Gruet, CEO of OEE. “Their leadership in the sector and commitment to delivering significant projects worldwide make them a valuable addition to our Board of Directors.”

PMR is also actively involved in other projects, such as the Normandie Hydroliennes NH1 project in France, a 12MW tidal array scheduled for deployment in 2027. The company has secured €31 million in EU Innovation Fund support for this venture. Additionally, PMR has deployed its 1.1MW AR1100 system in the Naru Strait in Japan, demonstrating its global reach and impact.

“With major projects underway in the UK, France, and Japan, we are proving that tidal energy is scalable, reliable, and ready to play a key role in the global energy transition,” noted Blaxland, highlighting PMR’s commitment to pushing tidal energy towards full commercialization.
