Helix Robotics Solutions Secures Contract with Prysmian for Trenching Services

Helix Robotics Solutions, the robotics division of U.S.-headquartered offshore energy services provider Helix Energy Solutions Group, has recently announced the acquisition of a contract with Italian cable systems giant Prysmian for its T1400-2 trencher.

The trencher will be utilized for post-installation cable burial on multiple projects in the Mediterranean and North Sea regions. Operating in conjunction with a work-class remotely operated vehicle (ROV), the T1400-2 subsea trencher is set to trench over 180 kilometers of cable.

This contract, scheduled to commence in July, is expected to run for a minimum of six months. It marks a significant deployment of the T1400-2 system following its acquisition, refurbishment, and integration into Helix’s asset fleet.

The T1400-2 system boasts a trenching vehicle equipped with a versatile trenching module and a launch and recovery system (LARS) rated for Lloyd’s sea state 6. It can be configured as a tracked jetting and hybrid cutting/jetting trenching vehicle, providing flexibility for various operations. For this specific project, the trencher will be set up in jetting mode.

Recent Contracts and Collaborations

Helix Energy Solutions has been actively engaged in the offshore energy sector, securing notable contracts such as the recent partnership with Seaway7 for the burial of inter-array cables at the Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm site in the UK. These collaborations underscore Helix’s expertise and capabilities in providing trenching services for critical offshore infrastructure projects.
