Jan De Nul and Hellenic Cables Partner with National Grid for HVDC Cable Projects

Belgium’s Jan De Nul and its Greek consortium partner Hellenic Cables have recently inked a framework agreement with British utility National Grid to collaborate on future HVDC cable projects in the UK and Europe.

The agreement enables the consortium to participate in upcoming tenders for various projects involving the design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of HVDC cable systems, as part of National Grid’s extensive offshore and onshore transmission infrastructure investment program.

This strategic framework spans five years initially, with a provision for extending it for up to three additional years, indicating a long-term commitment to working together on critical energy infrastructure projects.

Both Jan De Nul and Hellenic Cables have been actively enhancing their cabling capabilities to meet the growing demands of the industry. Hellenic Cables, a part of Cenergy Holdings, has been expanding its production capacity at its facilities in Corinth and Thiva, while Jan De Nul is set to bolster its fleet with two state-of-the-art cable-laying vessels, each capable of carrying up to 28,000 tonnes. These vessels are expected to be delivered by 2026, further solidifying the consortium’s ability to undertake large-scale cable projects efficiently.
