Blue Wasp Marine Launches Pelican Suite Software for Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion Optimization

Wind assisted ship propulsion (WASP) pioneer Blue Wasp Marine has unveiled its latest software tool, Pelican Suite, designed to empower vessel owners, operators, and charterers to evaluate and enhance a range of WASP solutions.

Pelican Suite is a comprehensive platform that offers a suite of tools for assessing the feasibility of WASP solutions, both before and after installation. It provides valuable insights such as the likelihood of surpassing a particular rudder angle or grid load, as well as identifying optimal routes for wind assistance.

For pre-installation analysis, Pelican Suite enables users to compare the impact of different WASP solutions on vessel operations and compliance with regulations such as the Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII), Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), and FuelEU. The software also provides data on potential fuel savings and the estimated payback period associated with a WASP implementation.

Post-installation, Pelican Suite facilitates performance monitoring, benchmarking, and optimization of WASP systems to ensure maximum efficiency and effectiveness.

This innovative software is built upon Blue Wasp’s proven Pelican software, which has been utilized in over 50 projects. It integrates an extensive database of wind propulsion systems, including Rotorsails, Wingsails, Suction Wings, and Kitesails, along with a comprehensive array of vessel types. Pelican is the first software tool of its kind to receive recognition from a classification society, having been granted approval in principle (AiP) from RINA.

With the launch of Pelican Suite, Blue Wasp Marine continues to lead the way in advancing wind assisted ship propulsion technology and providing industry stakeholders with cutting-edge solutions for optimizing vessel performance and sustainability.
