TGS Launches New Ultra Long Offset Ocean Bottom Node Data Acquisition Campaign in Gulf of America
TGS, a global provider of energy data and intelligence, has initiated a groundbreaking multi-client ultra long offset ocean bottom node (OBN) data acquisition campaign in the Gulf of America.
The project, known as Amendment 4, aims to expand node coverage in TGS’ multi-client library by adding over 1,100 square kilometers in key areas such as the Mississippi Canyon, Ewing Banks, and Grand Isle South.
One of the highlights of the project is the utilization of TGS’ Gemini enhanced frequency source, which offers lower frequency and improved signal-to-noise ratios for ultra-long offset OBN seismic surveys compared to traditional seismic sources.
By incorporating this advanced frequency source into their data acquisition process, TGS will enhance the input data for their elastic full waveform inversion (eFWI) algorithm. This will result in more accurate subsurface imaging of the complex subsalt geology prevalent in the region.
Industry support for the project is strong, with anticipation that the advanced subsurface imaging provided by the campaign will enable oil and gas operators to make more informed decisions and mitigate drilling risks.
The acquisition phase of the program is slated for completion in the second quarter of 2025, with final deliverables expected to be available in 2026.
