Switzerland’s MET Group Appoints Luis Sánchez as Head of LNG Unit

Switzerland-headquartered energy company MET Group has named a new leader for its liquefied natural gas (LNG) unit.

Luis Sánchez assumed the role of Head of LNG at MET International on April 1, 2025, taking over from Esther Ang, who will transition to the position of Head of LNG Origination, as announced by the Swiss company. In his new role, Sánchez will provide strategic direction to MET Group’s LNG Desk, drive portfolio growth, and optimize the short-term trading strategy.

Prior to joining MET, Sánchez served as the Global Head of LNG Trading and Origination at Uniper (formerly E.ON), where he accumulated over 15 years of experience in various roles. MET Group values his extensive expertise in LNG markets, which will be instrumental in leading negotiations with counterparties, strengthening key partnerships, and facilitating the company’s expansion in the LNG sector.

Recognizing LNG as a critical component in ensuring energy market flexibility and supply security, MET Group has established one of the most geographically diverse LNG import infrastructures in Europe, with long-term regasification capacity commitments in Germany, Croatia, and Spain.

Among the assets where the group has secured capacity is the LNG Croatia terminal in Croatia, which houses a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) named Krk. The terminal celebrated its 100th LNG shipment in September of last year.

In 2023, MET Group signed a 20-year heads of agreement (HoA) with U.S.-based Commonwealth LNG, further bolstering its portfolio by entering into a 10-year agreement with Shell for the procurement of U.S. LNG in 2024.

As part of its expansion strategy, the company ordered its first LNG carrier from Celsius Group at the end of last year, with delivery scheduled for 2027. The 180,000 cubic meter (cbm) vessel will be constructed by China Merchants Heavy Industry-Jiangsu.
