Setec Acquires Majority Stake in Sealand Projects to Strengthen Marine Engineering Capabilities

French engineering group Setec has acquired a majority stake in UK-based Sealand Projects, enhancing its marine engineering and offshore wind capabilities. This acquisition marks a significant expansion for Setec in the marine renewables sector and strengthens its presence in the UK and Northern Europe.

Sealand Projects, founded in 2007 by engineers Miles Jones and Nigel Danhash, offers research, consultancy, and project management services for maritime transport and port infrastructure projects. The company specializes in feasibility studies, design, installation supervision, mooring systems, logistics, and maintenance for marine energy infrastructure.

Under the leadership of Managing Director Graeme MacDougall, Sealand Projects has headquarters in Aberdeen and Glasgow and employs 50 staff and consultants.

Following the acquisition, Graeme MacDougall expressed his excitement, stating, “After more than a decade of contributing to the development of Sealand Projects, I am pleased to announce that the setec Group has officially acquired Sealand Projects. We are proud that Setec has recognized our unique skills and expertise in marine energy projects, and delighted to join this group which will allow us to write the next chapter of our development.“

Setec aims to leverage the UK’s experience in large-scale floating wind deployment, particularly in Scotland, for broader application across European offshore wind markets. Setec President Michel Kahan highlighted the importance of the UK’s role in advancing floating wind technology and its potential impact on decarbonizing the energy mix.

In June 2024, Sealand Projects successfully completed a factory acceptance test for the ZOEX Power wave energy device in Forres, Scotland. This was followed by the installation of a 100 kW wave energy device at the Port of Aberdeen, South Harbour, demonstrating Sealand Projects’ expertise in design, project management, and installation of marine energy solutions.
