TotalEnergies Signs Agreement for LNG Supply in the Dominican Republic

TotalEnergies has recently inked a significant deal with Energia Natural Dominicana (ENADOM), a joint venture between AES Dominicana and Energas in the Dominican Republic. The agreement entails the delivery of 400,000 tons of LNG annually, marking a pivotal step towards the country’s energy transition.

The contract, slated to commence in mid-2027 for a duration of 15 years, is contingent upon the finalization of supply purchase agreements (SPAs) with the price indexed to Henry Hub. This partnership is poised to bolster ENADOM’s capability to provide natural gas to a 470 MW combined-cycle power plant currently under construction, thereby augmenting the nation’s electricity generation capacity.

This initiative aligns with the Dominican Republic’s commitment to reducing its reliance on coal and fuel oil by embracing a more sustainable energy source in the form of natural gas. By leveraging a less carbon-intensive fuel, the project not only fosters environmental stewardship but also fosters economic growth and energy security.

Gregory Joffroy, Senior Vice President LNG at TotalEnergies, expressed enthusiasm over the agreement, emphasizing the company’s dedication to supporting the island’s energy transition. He highlighted TotalEnergies’ leadership in the LNG sector and affirmed that the contract will facilitate the utilization of US LNG supply, further bolstering the region’s energy landscape.

Edwin De los Santos, Chief Executive Officer at ENADOM, underscored the significance of the partnership with TotalEnergies, underscoring confidence in the Dominican Republic’s energy sector. He lauded ENADOM and AES for their investment prowess in delivering natural gas to the Dominican electricity market, ensuring a reliable, competitive, and environmentally responsible energy supply.

As ENADOM continues to play a pivotal role in fortifying the nation’s energy matrix, this collaboration signifies a milestone in the expansion and sustainability of the Dominican Republic’s energy infrastructure. The agreement heralds a new era of energy cooperation and underscores the collective commitment to driving positive change in the region’s energy landscape.
