Abervian and BlueNewables Collaborate on 1 MW Floating Solar Platform in Port of Valencia

Spain-based company Abervian has announced a strategic collaboration with fellow Spanish engineering consultancy BlueNewables to support the development of a 1 MW floating solar platform in the Port of Valencia, Spain. The project, scheduled for installation in 2026, aims to generate approximately 1,500 MWh annually, powering over 500 homes and reducing CO2 emissions by 620 tonnes per year.

BlueNewables’ innovative PV-bos technology combines bifacial solar panels with modular floating platforms and containerized inverters. The system utilizes seawater as a natural refrigerant to enhance energy efficiency, making it a sustainable solution for the marine energy sector.

Abervian will contribute to the project by developing an advanced monitoring system and customized Cloud SCADA platform. This technology will enable real-time monitoring of the solar platform’s operation, optimize performance, and ensure secure integration into the port electricity grid, as stated in a social media post by Abervian.

The monitoring system will be integrated into the overall solar and electricity plant managed by Norinver Montajes e Ingenieria, a company with expertise in the Galician naval and offshore sectors. The developers emphasize that the PV-bos technology prioritizes local content and promotes knowledge transfer within the shipping and renewable energy industries.

Earlier this year, BlueNewables announced progress on its floating solar demonstration project in Valencia, completing initial discussions with key suppliers. The collaboration between Abervian and BlueNewables signifies a significant step towards advancing sustainable energy solutions in Spain and beyond.
