Purus’ New CSOV Ready for Maiden Offshore Wind Job

Purus’ latest commissioning service operation vessel (CSOV), constructed by Vard, has successfully completed sea trials and is gearing up for its inaugural offshore wind assignment with Vestas.

The owner and operator of the service operation vessel, Purus, has announced that the first of its two CSOV vessels, ordered from Vard in 2023, is nearing readiness for deployment after a successful sea trial phase.

The vessel is set to be handed over from Vard to Purus in the second quarter of 2025. Following delivery, it will immediately commence operations for Vestas as part of a long-term agreement signed in 2024.

The Purus Chinook boasts accommodation for up to 120 individuals, along with cutting-edge features such as an all-electric gangway, an 18-meter helideck, a 3D motion-compensated crane with a capacity exceeding 5 tonnes, and a state-of-the-art Chartwell 12 passenger daughter craft.

This vessel represents the first of the Vard 419-designed CSOVs to join Purus’ operational fleet. Its counterpart, the Purus Coriolis, is expected to be delivered in the second quarter of 2026.

Both vessels exemplify Purus’ dedication to reducing carbon footprint in the maritime industry by incorporating sustainable technologies. Plans for potential dual-fuel methanol-ready propulsion systems are underway to further decrease emissions, with an estimated implementation timeframe starting from 2027.
