Poland’s Orlen Group Signs Agreement to Deliver LNG to Ukraine

Poland’s Orlen Group has recently inked a deal with Ukraine’s Naftogaz to supply liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States. This agreement, the third under a long-term collaboration framework established in March, will see Orlen deliver a total of 300 million cubic meters of US-sourced gas to Ukraine.

Robert Soszyński, Vice President of the Orlen Management Board, Operations, emphasized the significance of this partnership in enhancing Ukraine’s energy security. He stated, “Our partnership contributes significantly to strengthening Ukraine’s energy security through ORLEN’s diversified gas supply portfolio and the efficient utilisation of Polish transmission infrastructure. We remain committed to further supporting Ukraine by ensuring access to stable and diversified gas sources.”

Orlen plans to import the natural gas from the United States and regasify it at the President Lech Kaczyński LNG Terminal in Świnoujście, operated by Gaz-System. The gas will then be transported through the Polish transmission system to the Ukrainian border. Notably, the regasification capacity of the LNG terminal has been recently expanded to accommodate the increased supply.

Roman Chumak, Acting Chairman of the Board at Naftogaz of Ukraine, highlighted the importance of this supply agreement in bolstering energy cooperation between the two companies and ensuring a reliable energy resource for Ukrainian consumers. He added, “As we prepare for the next heating season, such contracts remain a key element of our strategy to diversify supply and bolster the country’s energy resilience.”

This latest agreement follows a previous deal for 100 million cubic meters of LNG under the same memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed in March. Orlen views these agreements as part of its strategy to diversify its customer base and expand its market reach.
