China Merchants Shipping Unveils State-of-the-Art Vessel in Ship Handover Ceremony

A ship handover and naming ceremony has been held for the 62,000 dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessel built by China Merchants Industry Nanjing Jinling for China Merchants Shipping.

Marking a significant milestone in maritime innovation, the vessel is the first of the four ‘Mingrong’ series 62,000 dwt ultra-flexible multi-purpose vessels signed in 2023. This new generation of energy-saving and environmentally friendly ships sets a new standard in the industry.

The vessel, designed by Shanghai Ship Design Institute (SDARI) and classed by China Classification Society (CCS), boasts impressive specifications. With a speed of 14.4 knots, it measures 199.9 meters in length, 32.26 meters in width, and 19.0 meters in depth. Featuring CFD optimized line design, five cargo holds, and four cranes on the port side with a maximum lifting capacity of 300 tons, the vessel is a testament to cutting-edge technology.

Equipped with energy-saving and environmentally friendly features such as large-diameter propeller thrusters, the vessel meets the international standards of the Ship Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) PHASE 3 series. It also includes an energy efficiency management system developed by China Merchants Industry and is set to be equipped with the IMP management system provided by China Merchants Shipping in the future.

Zheng Hehui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Industry and Chairman of Nanjing Jinling, expressed pride in the collaboration between the two companies, highlighting their commitment to safety, quality, and efficiency. He emphasized the importance of promoting future ship construction with enthusiasm and a pragmatic approach while deepening cooperation with China Merchants Shipping.

Xu Hui, Deputy General Manager of China Merchants Shipping, hailed the vessel as a milestone achievement in their partnership. He called for continued mission-driven collaboration to drive innovation in shipbuilding and shipping services, aiming to create a new era of success in the dry bulk shipping industry.

Earlier this year, Jinling Shipyard also celebrated the handover and naming ceremony of the 9,200 CEU dual-fuel car carrier, BYD Shenzhen, for BYD, a leading plug-in hybrid electric vehicle manufacturer. This impressive vessel, touted as the largest car carrier in the world, further showcases China’s prowess in maritime technology.
