StormGeo has announced a partnership with Awake.AI, a Finnish company specialising in AI analytics, to provide AI-driven port analytics to its customers.

This collaboration will integrate StormGeo’s s-Insight solution with Awake.AI’s port call analytics to enhance the company’s voyage optimisation services.

The integration is expected to improve estimated time of arrival (ETA) predictions for competing vessels and provide better insights into port congestion.

This combination is intended to enhance safety, efficiency, and sustainability in maritime voyages.

Clients will also benefit from berth availability analytics, traffic event monitoring, and assessments of avoidable waiting times, which could lead to just-in-time optimisation.

Awake.AI CEO Karno Tenovuo said: “Awake.AI’s analytics are a natural extension of StormGeo’s voyage optimisation services.

“Together, we are enabling shipping companies to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by making port calls more predictable and efficient – something that positively impacts both the bottom line and the planet.”

Awake.AI’s technology is configured for more than 3,000 ports and conducts more than 1.5 million voyage predictions each day.

The system analyses various data types, including historical traffic patterns, emissions data, Automatic Identification System (AIS) data, and vessel-specific information, which supports safe and efficient port calls.

StormGeo’s voyage optimisation services, which include the s-Insight solution, utilise predictive analytics alongside industry-leading weather intelligence and operational insights.

The integration of Awake.AI’s analytics services into the s-Insight solution will be facilitated through application programming interfaces (APIs).

StormGeo Route Advisory Services vice president Rolf Reksten said: “Port congestion and inefficient ship-port interactions contribute significantly to delays, emissions, and operational costs.

“By teaming up with Awake.AI, we are enhancing our voyage optimisation services by allowing our clients to plan their port calls more accurately and efficiently and ultimately help the industry save fuel and reduce emissions.”

In 2019, StormGeo and DNV GL agreed to merge their fleet performance solutions under the StormGeo brand.
