Vatn Systems Launches New AUV-Torpedo Product Line Skelmir S12

Vatn Systems, a cutting-edge defense technology company specializing in autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), has unveiled its latest innovation in underwater technology. The company has introduced the Skelmir S12, a versatile AUV-torpedo product line designed to meet the needs of the US military, allied forces, and commercial customers.

Advanced Technology and Performance

The Skelmir S12 boasts a 12.75-inch diameter and offers unparalleled flexibility and performance. It can be configured for various missions, including torpedo operations, sensor platforms, and electronic warfare capabilities. The AUV is designed for deployment from submarines, surface vessels, and aircraft, making it a versatile and valuable asset for a range of mission profiles.

Successful Testing and Production

The Skelmir S12 AUV configuration has already completed its first exercise successfully. The first production run has been sold to government customers, with deliveries scheduled for this year. The torpedo variant of the Skelmir S12 will enter production and be delivered next year.

State-of-the-Art Manufacturing Facility

Vatn Systems has opened a new manufacturing facility in Rhode Island to produce the Skelmir S12 AUV-torpedo product line. The facility utilizes patent-pending modular design and vertical integration techniques to enable rapid production at a scale previously unseen in the underwater vehicle market.

Brendan Smith, Director of Manufacturing at Vatn Systems, stated, “With our new facility capable of producing up to 2,000 vehicles annually, we are poised to meet the increasing demand for our advanced AUV-torpedo systems. This production capacity gives us a significant competitive advantage in the market.”

Digital Partnership with Palantir

Vatn Systems has partnered with Palantir to digitize its manufacturing process and leverage AI-driven insights to accelerate production. This collaboration will streamline operations and enhance efficiency in the manufacturing of AUVs built at the new facility. Full production capability is expected to be reached by July 2025.
