MacGregor to Deliver Fully Electric Cargo Cranes for Vertom Group’s Multipurpose Vessels
MacGregor, a leading provider of maritime cargo and load handling solutions, has recently secured a significant order from the Vertom group, a prominent shipowner and maritime service provider based in the Netherlands. The order is for the delivery of fully electric cargo cranes that will be installed on four multipurpose vessels owned by Vertom.
This order marks a significant milestone for MacGregor as it represents the company’s first foray into delivering electric cranes for vessels. The vessels, for which the electric cranes are intended, will be constructed in India at the renowned Chowgule Shipyard. The order was made possible through a close collaboration with VARYA Tech, MacGregor’s local sales partner.
Each of the four vessels will be outfitted with two SWL 80t – 18-meter fully electric cargo cranes. The deliveries of these innovative cranes are scheduled to commence in 2026.
The decision to opt for fully electric cranes underscores the commitment of both MacGregor and Vertom to enhance safety, reliability, and operational efficiency while also significantly reducing the environmental impact as compared to traditional hydraulic systems.
Rolf van Leeuwen, Newbuilding Superintendent at Vertom, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership with MacGregor, stating, “We are pleased to partner with MacGregor on this important step forward in the electrification of our fleet. These electric cranes support our commitment to safer and more sustainable operations and reflect our ambition to lead by example in responsible shipping.”
Magnus Sjöberg, Senior Vice President of the Equipment and Solutions Division at MacGregor, also expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration, saying, “We are pleased to partner with Vertom in bringing next-generation electric crane technology to their fleet. This order demonstrates our ability to meet the evolving demands of the shipping industry with efficient and environmentally responsible solutions.”
Overall, the partnership between MacGregor and Vertom marks a significant milestone in the maritime industry’s transition towards more sustainable and eco-friendly practices. By embracing cutting-edge electric crane technology, both companies are setting a new standard for responsible and forward-thinking shipping operations.
