PGE Baltica Collaborates with Polish Companies for Specialist Geophysical Survey of Baltic Sea Seabed

PGE Baltica has recently signed a contract with a consortium of Polish companies to conduct a specialized geophysical survey of the Baltic Sea seabed for the Baltica 9 offshore wind farm. The survey will focus on identifying unexploded ordnance and shallow gas in the area.

The two companies tasked with carrying out the survey are Geo Ingenieurservice Polska based in Gdynia and Baltic Diving Solutions from Rumia. Their scope of work includes performing the geophysical survey, processing and analyzing the collected data, and issuing as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP) certificates for selected sites on the Baltic Sea seabed where future geotechnical surveys will take place.

“After successful measurement campaigns in the North Sea and foreign Baltic projects, we are pleased that the Baltic Surveyor vessel will participate in the preparation and implementation of projects in the Polish zone of the Baltic Sea,” stated Krzysztof Stopierzyński, President of Baltic Diving Solutions.

The survey is scheduled to take place in the third quarter of 2025 and will target locations identified in the preceding 2D Ultra-High-Resolution (UHRS) geophysical campaign conducted by Geofizyka Toruń SA.

The Baltica 9 offshore wind farm is planned to occupy an area spanning 121 square kilometers, approximately 48 kilometers from the shore. With a potential installed capacity of around 975 MW, the wind farm holds significant promise for renewable energy production in the region.
