Megamas Resources Moves Closer to Construction of Multi-Purpose Cable Laying Vessel
A Malaysia-headquartered provider of marine services to the offshore oil & gas industry has taken a significant step towards the development of a multi-purpose cable laying vessel (CLV).
Megamas Resources has inked a letter of intent (LoI) with German shipyard Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven to initiate advanced discussions regarding the potential construction of the vessel, with options for a second one also on the table.
The company from Malaysia highlighted that this move is a response to the global shortage of specialized offshore vessels that are crucial for supporting the renewable energy and subsea telecommunications sectors.
The collaboration with Crewstone International Private Equity & Investments will bring together Lloyd Werft Bremerhaven and Ulstein Design & Solutions to deliver the state-of-the-art cable laying vessel.
The CLV will adhere to DNV’s Clean (Design) and Recyclable class notations, and the first unit is anticipated to be completed by the end of 2027.
Notably, Ulstein Design & Solutions had previously secured a contract with Megamas Resources in late 2023 for the conceptual design of a fuel-efficient cable laying and repair vessel.
The vessel is expected to be 120 meters long, with a beam of 23 meters, capable of accommodating 70 individuals, boasting a deadweight capacity of 8,000 tonnes, and achieving a passage speed of 14 knots.
