One Missing Person Reported Following Fire Incident at Chevron’s BBLT Platform Off Angola

On May 20, a fire incident occurred at Chevron’s Benguela Belize Lobito Tomboco (BBLT) deepwater platform off Angola, resulting in 17 people being injured. Unfortunately, one person has been reported missing in connection with the incident, as announced by Angola’s National Agency for Oil, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG).

Government entities and Chevron’s Angolan subsidiary Cabinda Gulf Oil Company (CABGOC) are currently working in close collaboration to mobilize resources for search and rescue operations. The safety and well-being of the workforce remain a top priority, with CABGOC and its contractors providing support to those affected and their families, as stated by ANPG.

The cause of the May 20 incident is still under investigation. The incident occurred during the annual maintenance of the BBLT facility as part of a scheduled shutdown, with all production at the site having been halted since May 1, 2025. The BBLT platform, situated in Block 14, is located approximately 60 miles offshore the Cabinda coast.
