OPT Completes First WAM-V 22 Sea Trials for Sub Saharan Africa Customer

Ocean Power Technologies (OPT), a leading U.S.-based marine power, data, and service solutions company, has successfully completed its first WAM-V 22 sea trials for a customer with significant operations in Sub Saharan Africa. The trials took place at OPT’s newly permitted test site in Southern New Jersey, following thorough site visits and operational reviews by the U.S. Coast Guard.

The WAM-V, a cutting-edge autonomous vessel, boasts advanced capabilities and is specifically designed to conduct offshore surveys with 24/7 operational payloads for multiple days without the need to return to base. This innovative technology offers a game-changing solution for marine operations in remote and challenging environments.

Philipp Stratmann, CEO of OPT, expressed his satisfaction with the successful sea trials, stating, “This milestone marks a significant advancement for OPT. We are delighted to have completed the testing of a WAM-V for a major specialized offshore services customer at our state-of-the-art test site. This achievement now allows us to conduct year-round testing on both coasts, streamlining product delivery for our customers and accelerating revenue recognition.”

With a commitment to pushing the boundaries of marine technology and providing reliable solutions for the industry, OPT continues to drive innovation and efficiency in marine operations. The successful completion of the WAM-V 22 sea trials underscores OPT’s dedication to delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet the evolving needs of its customers in Sub Saharan Africa and beyond.
