Fugro to Conduct Offshore Geotechnical Survey at Morgan and Mona Wind Sites in the UK

Fugro will be commencing an offshore geotechnical survey at the Morgan and Mona offshore wind sites in the UK, beginning on or around June 2nd. The survey will be carried out using Fugro’s geotechnical drilling vessel, Fugro Synergy, which will drill, sample, and core boreholes within the array areas. The project is expected to be completed by September 10th. The vessel will remain stationary at each borehole location for up to three days to facilitate the retrieval of samples and cores from the seabed, as per a Notice to Mariners issued by the project team.

The Morgan and Mona offshore wind farms are slated to be developed by a partnership between BP and EnBW at two sites situated in the Irish Sea, approximately 22-37 kilometers off the UK coast.

The joint venture secured leases for the project sites in the UK Round 4 leasing round at the beginning of 2021. Subsequently, the developers obtained electricity generation licenses for the Morgan and Mona projects in the following year. This year, the UK Planning Inspectorate concluded the examination of the development consent order (DCO) applications for the two ventures.

In a Notice to Mariners issued in March, the Morgan and Mona project announced that a geotechnical survey within the array sites would commence later that month and continue until September 30th. This survey is being conducted by Gardline’s Horizon Geodrill vessel.

BP and EnBW are collaborating on three joint offshore wind projects in the UK, namely Morgan, Mona, and Morven, with a combined projected capacity of 5.9 GW. Both Morgan and Mona offshore wind farms are expected to have an installed capacity of 1.5 GW each.
