Fugro to Conduct Nearshore Site Investigation on Wake Island for Jacobs

Fugro, a leading provider of geo-data services, has been selected by Jacobs to undertake a nearshore site investigation on Wake Island, a remote US territory situated in the central Pacific between Hawaii and Guam. This project is crucial for supporting the US Navy’s operations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Wake Island, an isolated coral atoll, plays a vital role as a logistical and transport hub for the US Navy. Jacobs has enlisted Fugro to gather essential ground engineering data that will be used to plan and design a new mooring system on the island as part of an infrastructure modernization initiative.

Proven Track Record

Fugro has a track record of successfully completing similar projects, including previous work on Wake Island for Jacobs. In April, Fugro conducted onshore site investigations to support facility upgrades. The project required a robust mobilization plan, including establishing high-speed data links for real-time access to field data, a strategic investment that will also benefit the upcoming nearshore geotechnical investigation.

Upcoming Fieldwork

The fieldwork for the nearshore project is scheduled to commence in early August and is expected to last approximately two months. Fugro is currently in the process of mobilizing assets to the remote site, which includes transporting a modular jack-up barge and specialized geotechnical sampling equipment. Due to the lack of standard port facilities on the island, a mobile crane will be utilized to ensure the safe and efficient offloading of equipment upon arrival.
