Expleo’s Vision 202X: Investing in the Future of UK Naval Engineering

Expleo, a global engineering, technology, and consulting company, is paving the way for the next generation of UK naval engineering talent through its innovative ship design challenge, Vision 202X.

With a focus on sustainability and innovation, Expleo collaborates with defense primes and leading marine manufacturers on projects that align with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and drive technological advancement in the maritime industry. To nurture talent and promote continuous learning, Expleo introduced Vision 202X, an internal design challenge that centers around the development of a comprehensive vessel design showcasing intelligent engineering solutions with adaptability at its core.

Professional growth is essential for engineers, and Expleo designed this program to empower its engineers to enhance their existing skills and acquire new ones while staying attuned to client demands and industry trends.

Over a six-month period, a team of graduates and engineers collaborated on a vessel design project using a spiral approach that encompassed requirements gathering, engineering analysis, and concept visualization. Throughout the project, participants refined their expertise in concept design, naval architecture, marine engineering, systems engineering, as well as testing and validation.

The project received guidance from Commodore Steve Prest (Ret.), a former Royal Navy officer with 25 years of service. Prest served as the client for the engineers, providing valuable insights and feedback at each stage to help define mission requirements, explore concepts of use, and challenge assumptions.
