Venture Global Launches Site Work for CP2 LNG Project in Louisiana

Venture Global, an American producer of liquefied natural gas (LNG) sourced from North American basins, has begun site work at its proposed multibillion-dollar export project in Louisiana, United States. This marks the firm’s third facility to be built in the last five years.

The initiation of full mobilization at the CP2 LNG project follows the conditional approval to export LNG to non-free trade agreement (non-FTA) countries from the project. Scheduled to bring new LNG supply to the global market starting in 2027, Venture Global aims to become the largest LNG exporter in the United States and the second largest in the world, following the successful operations of the Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines LNG projects.

Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global, expressed his appreciation for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) support, stating, “With all federal approvals now in hand, we are excited to announce that we have launched on-site work for this project, which is expected to deliver reliable low-cost LNG to the world starting in 2027.”

Strategic Significance and Economic Impact

Considered a strategically important project, CP2 is poised to provide U.S. LNG to customers in Europe, Japan, and other global allies. The project is projected to generate over $4 billion in local property taxes during its operation and create approximately 3,000 new jobs in Louisiana, with 400 being direct, permanent employees of CP2.

With approximately 7,500 direct construction jobs at peak construction and support for tens of thousands of indirect subcontractor, part-time, and full-time jobs in over 30 states, CP2 is set to significantly contribute to the U.S. economy.

Project Details and Progress

The $28 billion CP2 LNG terminal will be situated on a 1,150-acre site along the Calcasieu Ship Channel in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The CP Express pipeline, originating in Texas and ending at the LNG project site, will supply natural gas to the facility.

Utilizing a ‘design one, build many’ modularized LNG facility strategy, CP2 is already well advanced in engineering, procurement, and contracting. Significant off-site work is also underway on project modules and equipment, positioning CP2 as one of the most advanced LNG export projects in the United States.

Upon completion, Venture Global aims to solidify its position as a top exporter of U.S. LNG, catering to the growing global demand for clean energy sources.
