EnergyPathways Selects Zenith Energy for Offshore Wind Energy Storage Project

England-based energy transition-focused player EnergyPathways has chosen the UK’s Zenith Energy as a contractor for its large-scale offshore wind-powered energy storage project in the East Irish Sea. The project, known as the Marram Energy Storage Hub (MESH), is set to reach a final investment decision later this year.

Zenith Energy will serve as the well engineering department for EnergyPathways’ subsidiary company, EnergyPathways Irish Sea Limited (EPISL), overseeing drilling and completion design, permit planning, procurement, and well execution for the Marram development wells.

Derek Grimmer, COO of EnergyPathways, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership, stating, “Zenith have already demonstrated their ability to collaborate and work closely with the company on the pre-FEED phase of the project, making them the ideal partner for the MESH project.”

MESH aims to provide a secure and dependable supply of natural gas, green hydrogen, and low-carbon power for the UK market for over 25 years. The facility will integrate gas storage, hydrogen storage, and compressed air storage technologies with offshore wind to create a major decarbonized energy hub.

Chris Collie, Operations Director at Zenith Energy, commented, “We are delighted to have been selected as EnergyPathways’ well engineering partner for this strategically important project that supports the UK’s transition to net zero.”

With the license operatorship approval for Block 110/4a secured, MESH is strategically located near existing offshore wind power capacity, reusable gas pipelines, and carbon capture and storage projects in the UK.

Expected to be Britain’s largest integrated energy storage facility, MESH will store up to 20 TWh of energy and contribute to the government’s clean power goals for 2030 while ensuring a reliable energy supply for the UK.

Designed as a zero-emission facility powered by wind energy, MESH underscores EnergyPathways’ commitment to supporting the UK’s energy transition and accelerating decarbonization efforts.
