Chartwell Marine to Design New CTV for NR Marine Services

NR Marine Services has enlisted the expertise of UK-based ship designer Chartwell Marine to create a cutting-edge Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) that will specifically cater to older generation assets, now referred to as legacy turbines.

The new vessel will be equipped with modern technologies to optimize fuel efficiency and ensure passenger comfort during transfers.

Named the Defiant class vessel, this 20-meter CTV will boast IMO Tier 3 compliance, a step-free forward deck, a mounted superstructure, and contemporary furnishings and materials typically found in larger CTVs.

In addition to servicing legacy turbines, the Defiant class vessel can be customized for various projects. Options include a water jet propulsion system for shallow water sites, hybrid propulsion systems for enhanced performance, and internal modularity to accommodate different seating and equipment configurations.

Richard Thurlow of NR Marine Services commented, “After conducting an internal fleet review and market analysis, it became evident that there is a demand to replace older vessels, particularly those between 10-15 years old, for near-shore projects that require new CTVs. The Defiant offers a modern, compact, and efficient solution tailored for smaller harbors and shallow water operations.”

Ben Colman of Diverse Marine added, “The Defiant sets a new standard for CTV design, providing a spacious and contemporary environment on a smaller, highly efficient platform. It is perfectly suited for short transit routes and projects in challenging coastal environments.”
