ABS Chairman and CEO Christopher J. Wiernicki was recently honored by The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) with the prestigious 2025 Silver Bell Award for his lifelong service and outstanding leadership in the maritime industry.

Founded nearly 200 years ago, SCI is a charitable organization based in New York dedicated to supporting and safeguarding the well-being of mariners and seafarers worldwide. Through partnerships with the maritime industry, SCI ensures a safe and dignified workplace for seafarers.

Wiernicki received the award at the 47th Annual Silver Bell Awards Dinner in New York City, where over 600 guests gathered to celebrate his contributions to the maritime sector.

Expressing his gratitude, Wiernicki stated, “I am deeply honored and profoundly humbled to receive this award, which has been bestowed upon many esteemed leaders in our industry. Safety, to me, is not just a protocol—it is about protecting lives, keeping families whole, and safeguarding futures. Seafarers, the unsung heroes of our global economy, deserve our utmost respect and unwavering commitment to their safety and well-being.”
