Sustainable Partnership: Everllence Teams Up with Plastic Fischer to Tackle River Pollution

By: Everllence

Everllence has recently announced a significant three-year sponsorship agreement with the social enterprise, Plastic Fischer, to combat plastic pollution in rivers near Everllence locations in India. This collaboration aims to remove and recycle between 450 and 500 tons of plastic over the next three years by implementing innovative solutions to address the pressing issue of river pollution.

Plastic Fischer will utilize the support from Everllence to install seven floating barriers in Vadodara and Bangalore to capture river plastic effectively. The partnership will also enable the startup to establish two material-recovery facilities for sorting and recycling the collected materials, creating 20 local jobs in the first year alone.

Uwe Lauber, CEO of Everllence, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Protecting oceans and waterways is essential to us, and Plastic Fischer’s commendable work in this area aligns with our commitment to sustainability. We are proud to support their mission and contribute to meaningful change.”

Karsten Hirsch, CEO and founder of Plastic Fischer, also shared his excitement about the collaboration, emphasizing the significant impact it will have on local communities and the environment. He stated, “This long-term support will help us build infrastructure and drive sustainable change on-site, removing hundreds of tons of ocean and river plastic while creating job opportunities and exploring innovative recycling methods.”

Addressing the Global Issue of Plastic Pollution

Plastic pollution poses a severe threat to ecosystems and biodiversity, with 80% of ocean plastic originating from river pollution. Plastic Fischer’s approach of using specially-developed barriers called ‘TrashBooms’ to capture plastic directly in rivers has proven to be effective in preventing further contamination of water bodies.

Furthermore, the company focuses on recycling the collected plastic materials wherever possible and processing non-recyclable waste in cement plants as an environmentally-friendly alternative to landfill or incineration.

Local Engagement for Global Impact

As part of the partnership, Everllence will organize regular joint-collection campaigns with employees at its locations in India. The company’s operations in Aurangabad, Bangalore, Vadodara, and Mumbai will actively participate in cleanup efforts, emphasizing the importance of local engagement in addressing global environmental challenges.

Michael Melzer, Head of Experience Communications at Everllence, highlighted the significance of Plastic Fischer’s local approach and how it aligns with the company’s commitment to environmental protection and community development. He added, “Our employees in Bangalore and Vadodara can volunteer in the cleanups – it’s a great opportunity for collaboration and making a positive impact.”

The partnership between Everllence and Plastic Fischer exemplifies a shared dedication to environmental sustainability and community engagement, demonstrating the power of collaboration in addressing pressing environmental issues.
