BlueNewables Progresses Toward Offshore Deployment with PV-BOS Floating Solar Project
BlueNewables, a Spanish engineering consultancy specializing in marine energy, has achieved significant development milestones in its PV-BOS floating solar project, moving closer to offshore deployment.
The company recently announced that steel cutting for the first PV-BOS platform was completed at San Enrique Shipyard, located in Marina Meridional in Vigo, Spain.
“Some weeks ago, we officially initiated the construction phase by cutting the first steel for the PV-BOS platform at San Enrique Shipyard. This milestone was achieved in collaboration with a highly experienced shipyard partner. Congratulations to our dedicated team in Vigo for their hard work,” BlueNewables shared on social media.
Simultaneously, the design certification process is underway with Lloyd’s Register. BlueNewables’ engineering team based in Madrid is leading this process in conjunction with Lloyd’s personnel in Madrid and the UK.
“Our collaboration with Lloyd’s Register on the design certification process is progressing well. This rigorous step is crucial in ensuring the reliability and confidence in our technology. The certification will play a pivotal role in expanding the application of PV-BOS in future projects. Kudos to our engineering team, led by Fernando Vigara Martin, for their exceptional work alongside the Lloyd’s team,” the company added.
Regarding the electrical components, manufacturing is ongoing at Norinver Montajes e Ingenieria’s facilities in Ferrol. The equipment being assembled includes solar panels, switchboards, and a transformer station.
PV-BOS, an innovative technology developed by BlueNewables, integrates bifacial solar panels with modular floating platforms and containerized inverters. The system utilizes seawater as a natural coolant to enhance energy efficiency.
In a recent development, BlueNewables teamed up with Abervian, a Spain-based company, for the development of a 1 MW floating solar platform set to be installed in the Port of Valencia by 2026.
