Vane Brothers & Shell Deliver First Biofuel To Cruise Ship At Manhattan Terminal

Maritime service provider Vane Brothers and multinational oil and gas company Shell have completed their first marine biofuel delivery in New York.

The bunkering operation was carried out earlier this month at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, where the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Silver Shadow received a bio-blended marine fuel. The delivery was supported by the tug Fort McHenry and the barge Double Skin 37.

Vane Brothers shared the update in a LinkedIn post last week, confirming that this was their first New York-based delivery of bio-blended bunker fuel.

Marine biofuel blends are becoming increasingly popular in the shipping industry as a lower-emission alternative to traditional marine fuels. These fuels are considered “drop-in” solutions, which means they can be used in existing ship engines without needing major changes or upgrades.

While ports in Europe and Asia already have more established supply chains for biofuels, access to these fuels is slowly expanding for ocean-going ships in the United States as well.

The delivery to Silver Shadow was made possible through a partnership between Vane Brothers and Shell, with both companies aiming to support cleaner, more sustainable fuel choices in the maritime sector.
