The Final Inter-Array Cable Installed at EMYN Offshore Wind Farm in France

The completion of the final inter-array cable installation at the Îles d’Yeu and Noirmoutier (EMYN) offshore wind farm in France marks a significant milestone in the project’s development. Les Éoliennes en Mer Services, the developer behind the wind farm, announced the successful installation of the 61st inter-array cable on June 22.

With this achievement, the EMYN offshore wind farm is now poised to have a transmission capacity of 512 MW, bringing it closer to full operational capacity. Geoquip Marine’s Geoquip Elena, specially converted into a Cable Laying Vessel (CLV) with a project-specific deck layout, played a crucial role in the installation process.

According to Louis Dreyfus TravOcean, the vessel will be demobilized from the Dunkirk offshore base in early July, following the successful completion of the cable installation. Prysmian, responsible for the termination and testing activities, conducted these crucial tasks from Island Offshore’s service operation vessel (SOV) Island Diligence, ensuring that all systems are functioning optimally.

Once fully operational, the EMYN offshore wind farm will feature 61 wind turbines, each rated at 8 MW, with a total installed capacity of 488 MW. This capacity will enable the wind farm to generate 1,900 GWh per year, equivalent to the electricity consumption of 800,000 people.

The project is on track to be fully commissioned by the end of 2025, providing a significant boost to France’s renewable energy goals and contributing to the country’s transition to a more sustainable energy future.
