Karmsund Hydrogen and HydePoint Collaborate to Build Green Hydrogen Facility

Karmsund Hydrogen, a joint venture between Norwegian Hydrogen, Sigma, and Karmsund Group, has teamed up with HydePoint to establish a cutting-edge green hydrogen facility in Karmsund, with the primary goal of reducing emissions in local industries. The facility will be situated at Karmsund Group’s Service Base, providing direct access to hydrogen consumers in both the maritime and onshore sectors.

The project is set to generate over 3000 tons of green hydrogen annually, leveraging a 20 MW installed electrolysis capacity. This initiative is a direct response to the requirements of the local industry and demonstrates a strong regional commitment to emission reduction and sustainable development.

By offering locally produced green hydrogen, the project aims to facilitate the decarbonization of critical industrial sectors and bolster the region’s maritime industry with eco-friendly fuel solutions. HydePoint brings to the table specialized technology and expertise in maritime hydrogen production, implementing a barge system integrated with onshore infrastructure for adaptable and scalable deployment of hydrogen capacity.

The development of the project will be carried out in a structured manner, with the first hydrogen deliveries anticipated in 2028. The project partners are actively engaging with industrial and maritime clients to ensure that the production aligns with genuine local demand, catering to the specific needs of the region.
