Israeli Ministry Allows Restart of Offshore Energy Production

The Israeli Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure has given the green light for the restart of production from two offshore projects that were temporarily suspended due to escalating conflicts with Iran.

Following a temporary suspension order issued on June 14, production and activities on the Energean Power FPSO and Chevron’s Leviathan field came to a halt.

With tensions easing, the operators, Energean and Chevron, have now received approval from the Petroleum Commissioner at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure to resume production from the FPSO and Leviathan platform.

Energean is currently focused on safely restarting production and returning to normal operations in accordance with its established procedures.

NewMed Energy, Chevron’s partner in the Leviathan project, has confirmed that efforts are underway to restart the platform and resume regular production from the reservoir without delay.

During the production stoppage on the Leviathan platform and at the Karish lease, an estimated loss of income totaling approximately $38.8 million has been incurred. As a result, the partnership has declared force majeure for the duration of the production halt.

While the partners are exploring the possibility of seeking compensation from Israel for the interruption in gas production, the outcome remains uncertain at this time.

Overall, the industry is looking forward to the resumption of operations and the restoration of energy production from these key offshore projects.
