Equinor Launches Service Operations Vessel ECO Liberty for Empire Wind Project

Equinor, the developer of Empire Wind, has recently unveiled the Service Operations Vessel ECO Liberty, marking a significant milestone in the New York offshore wind project. The vessel was launched on June 28 and christened by Louisiana First Lady Sharon Landry at the Port of New Orleans.

The ceremony, attended by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and leaders from Equinor and Edison Chouest Offshore, celebrated the American-made ECO Liberty, which was built by over 500 workers from Louisiana. Constructed with American steel and components sourced from Gulf Coast states, the 262-foot hybrid-powered vessel represents a collaboration of skilled workers from the region.

Following the christening, ECO Liberty is set to depart for New York, where it will be stationed at the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal. This terminal, currently undergoing construction by over 2,000 workers, will serve as a key hub for Empire Wind’s marine operations, maintenance activities, and control center.

Once in New York, ECO Liberty will support ongoing marine construction in the lease area and provide accommodation for Empire Wind’s workforce stationed offshore. The vessel, along with six other new US-flagged vessels, will enhance the U.S. Jones Act compliant fleet, further solidifying Equinor’s commitment to American maritime standards.

As a symbol of innovation and collaboration, ECO Liberty represents the dedication of Equinor and its partners to advancing the offshore wind industry in the United States. The vessel’s deployment marks a significant step forward in the Empire Wind project, bringing sustainable energy closer to reality for New York and the nation.
