Deutsche ReGas Achieves Record Performance at Mukran LNG Terminal

Germany’s private operator of liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, Deutsche ReGas, has reached a milestone at its energy terminal in Mukran, on the German Baltic Sea, known as Deutsche Ostsee in Germany.

During the second quarter of 2025, the energy terminal at Mukran set a new record by injecting more than ten terawatt-hours (TWh) of gas into the German gas grid. This achievement marked the highest quarterly supply performance and solidified the terminal as the top-performing LNG terminal in Germany.

Ingo Wagner, CEO of Deutsche ReGas, expressed his satisfaction with the terminal’s performance, stating, “In the past quarter, we proved the efficiency of our terminal and fed more natural gas into the German grid on behalf of our customers than any other LNG import terminal in Germany. This is also confirmation of the reliability and flexibility of our services and an excellent signal for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as a business location.”

The energy terminal at the Mukran industrial port has been operational since September 2, 2024. Regular operations involve LNG tankers unloading cargo every three to four days to feed gas into the German grid.

The energy from the terminal is integrated into the German gas grid through fixed capacities of 16 GWh/h, with an additional 4 GWh/h capacity available for export to the Czech Republic. This ensures a secure gas supply for Germany and Europe.

Regasified LNG from Mukran is transported via pipeline to Lubmin and then distributed through the German long-distance gas pipeline network. The terminal has the capacity to feed up to 13.5 billion cubic meters of natural gas into the network during regular operations.

Deutsche ReGas recently terminated the contract of FSRU Energos Power, one of the regasification vessels at the terminal, due to concerns over LNG pricing policies by Deutsche Energy Terminal (DET). The termination was deemed necessary to protect the German market from detrimental pricing practices.

In June, Deutsche ReGas and Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy reached a mutual agreement on the resolution of the sub-charter agreement for FSRU Energos Power. While the details of the agreement remain undisclosed, Wagner emphasized that they reached “an amicable and mutually satisfactory out-of-court solution.”
