McDermott Wins Offshore Contract for Subsea Work in Brazil

Houston-based McDermott has secured an offshore transportation and installation contract from BRAVA Energia for subsea work at two major deepwater developments in Brazil.

The scope covers transportation and installation of flexible flowlines, umbilicals, and associated subsea equipment for four new wells—two each at the Papa-Terra field in the Campos Basin and the Atlanta field in the Santos Basin’s Block BS-4. The contract also includes pre-commissioning and onshore base support services.

The value of the award falls under McDermott’s “sizeable” category, defined as between $1m and $50m.

“This award highlights the vital role of subsea infrastructure in enabling long-term production and asset value for deepwater developments,” said Mahesh Swaminathan, McDermott’s senior vice president of subsea and floating facilities, adding: “We will leverage our proven integrated delivery model, marine capabilities and expertise in delivering brownfield deepwater solutions to support Brazil and the broader South American offshore market.”

McDermott has a long history in Brazil, having previously delivered the tension leg wellhead platform for Papa-Terra—the first dry-tree floating production system installed offshore Brazil and the first TLP deployed in South America.

The new wells are part of BRAVA Energia’s strategy to boost output and extend the operational life of its deepwater infrastructure. The Atlanta and Papa-Terra developments represent key components of the company’s effort to revitalize maturing fields while maintaining production in one of Latin America’s most competitive offshore sectors.
