Technip Energies Wins Contract for FLNG Unit in Africa

French-based engineering and technology company Technip Energies has been awarded a contract for work on an FLNG unit in Africa. The contract, valued between €250m to €500m ($292m to $585m), covers preliminary activities and is effective until the end of September.

The client for this project has not been disclosed by Technip Energies. However, industry sources speculate that the FLNG unit will likely be deployed at Eni’s Coral Norte project in Mozambique, with a potential contract value of up to $2.5bn if finalized.

This recent contract win comes shortly after Samsung Heavy secured a similar preliminary deal worth 869.4bn won ($637m) for the construction of an Africa-based FLNG unit, set to expire in September as well.

Technip Energies has a strong track record in the FLNG sector, having previously worked on projects such as Eni’s Coral South FLNG in Mozambique, which commenced gas exports to Europe in 2022. The company has also been involved in the PFLNG Satu in Malaysia and the Prelude FLNG in Australia, with a combined total capacity of 8.2m tons per annum.

With this new contract, Technip Energies continues to solidify its position as a key player in the FLNG market, showcasing its expertise and capabilities in delivering complex engineering projects.
