Superyacht Sea Lady II in Danger of Sinking After Fire

A 41-metre superyacht named Sea Lady II is facing the threat of sinking after a devastating fire engulfed the vessel on 9 July. While there have been no reported casualties, firefighters on the scene have expressed concerns that the yacht may not be salvageable.

Reports from the media indicate that an anti-pollution barrier has been deployed around the distressed yacht to contain any potential environmental damage.

Fire service officials stated, “Surrounding yachts were promptly relocated, and anti-pollution measures have been implemented. Unfortunately, it is probable that the vessel will sink in the port.”

Sea Lady II, previously known as D’Angleterre II, was constructed by W.A. Souter & Sons in 1986. According to Yacht Charter Fleet, this luxury yacht offers accommodation for up to 10 guests across five cabins and features elegant interior design by Frédéric Mechiche.

With a weekly charter rate of $90,000, Sea Lady II boasts spacious living areas and luxurious amenities for its guests.

The yacht, constructed with an aluminium hull and superstructure, is equipped with twin Caterpillar engines that enable a cruising speed of 12 knots and a maximum speed of 16 knots. It has a range of up to 4,031 nautical miles and can anchor in shallow waters with a draft of 2.2m/7’3″.

Video footage captured by onlookers, such as the one shared by Gary Sturrock on X, shows the intensity of the fire as smoke billows from the yacht before flames erupt.

Another video from ThisisSttropez on Facebook showcases the alarming scene as tourists and locals witness the yacht engulfed in flames.

The fire reportedly started around 20:00, with the forward hull of the yacht igniting first and spreading to lower decks. Two crew members were rescued, suffering from smoke inhalation.

Although firefighters managed to contain the majority of the blaze by midnight, accessing the vessel proved challenging. An investigation into the cause of the fire has been initiated.
