The Latest Milestone in the East Anglia Three Offshore Wind Farm Project

The first section of the export cable for the 1.4 GW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm has been pulled ashore, making landfall at Bawdsey in Suffolk.

NKT, the company responsible for supplying and installing the export cables for the project under a turnkey contract secured in 2022, commenced work on East Anglia Three back in June. This came after the installation of the first monopile at the project site in April.

The offshore export cables will serve as the conduit for transmitting electricity from the offshore wind farm to the land over a route approximately 147 kilometers long.

Upon reaching land, the offshore cables will be joined with cables extending around 37 kilometers from the landfall point to a new onshore converter station at Bramford. ScottishPower Renewables, the developer of East Anglia Three, is utilizing ducting that was laid during the development of East Anglia One over five years ago, thereby minimizing disruption and environmental impact.

East Anglia Three is part of ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia Hub, which also encompasses the 800 MW East Anglia One North and the 900 MW East Anglia Two offshore wind farms. The project will feature 95 Siemens Gamesa 14+ MW wind turbines, with all turbines expected to be operational by 2026.

Once fully operational and connected to the existing National Grid substation, the 1.4 GW offshore wind farm will have the capacity to power approximately 1.3 million homes with clean and green electricity, according to ScottishPower Renewables.
