Wave Energy Project in Los Angeles Nears Deployment
Wave energy developer Eco Wave Power has reached a significant milestone with the completion of all floaters for its first U.S. wave energy project, which is set to be deployed at the Port of Los Angeles later this month.
The floaters, constructed by California-based All-Ways Metal, are crucial components for what will be the first onshore wave energy station in the U.S. After completing the final painting phase, the floaters are now moving into assembly and logistics.

The floaters will be installed on a pre-existing jetty structure at the Port of Los Angeles, where wave motion will drive Eco Wave Power’s patented onshore conversion unit. This system aims to provide a lower-maintenance, land-based alternative to offshore energy platforms.
Following a site visit earlier this year by Eco Wave Power and the Port of Los Angeles, the deployment plan has been finalized, with the official project opening scheduled for later this summer.
The pilot project is supported by Shell’s Marine Renewable Program and aligns with Eco Wave Power’s U.S. market entry strategy, focusing on local sourcing and domestic cleantech supply chains.
In April, Eco Wave Power signed a manufacturing agreement with All-Ways Metal to produce floaters for its first U.S. wave energy installation at the Port of Los Angeles. This agreement followed key regulatory clearances, including a final license from the Port of Los Angeles granted earlier this month and a federal permit from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers secured in November 2024.
