Vinici Acquires Wärtsilä’s Marine Electric Systems Business Unit

Vinici, a leading provider of energy solutions, has announced a significant agreement with Wärtsilä to acquire its Marine Electric Systems business unit. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing Vinici’s presence in the defense market and other industrial sectors. The acquisition is part of Wärtsilä’s broader strategy to divest non-core businesses and unlock additional value within the company.

The sale includes Wärtsilä SAM Electronics, a renowned company based in Hamburg, Germany, with a rich history dating back to 1906. SAM Electronics specializes in cutting-edge technologies for the maritime sector and energy markets. With approximately 350 employees and annual revenues of around €100 million, the acquisition of SAM Electronics will bolster Vinici’s portfolio in the industrial sector. Additionally, the deal encompasses related assets for a significant project currently underway in Brazil.

Vinici expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, “This strategic move will enable Vinci Energies to expand its service offerings in the industrial sector and reinforce its foothold in the German defense market.”

Enhancing Naval Systems Capabilities

SAM Electronics is known for providing comprehensive electrical and electronic system packages for vessels, offering turnkey solutions with a strong focus on systems integration. As an EPC contractor for complete electrical packages, SAM Electronics excels in design, planning, engineering, and cable installation. The company’s expertise extends to integrating systems from various vendors, catering to a wide range of sectors within the shipping industry.

Notably, SAM Electronics has actively participated in numerous national and international naval projects. Its contributions to the German Navy, particularly with Class 124 and 125 frigates, Class 130 corvettes, and Class 702 combat support ships, underscore its expertise in naval systems. With offices in key maritime hubs like Hamburg, Elmenhorst, Wilhelmshaven, and Bremerhaven, SAM Electronics is strategically positioned to collaborate closely with leading German shipyards.

Strategic Alignment and Future Prospects

Commenting on the agreement, Bernd Bertram, Head of Portfolio Business at Wärtsilä, remarked, “This acquisition exemplifies our commitment to the Portfolio Business divestment strategy. Vinici Energies’ proficiency in project-based businesses makes them an ideal partner for Marine Electrical Systems. I am confident that Vinici Energies will provide a solid foundation for continued success, benefiting customers, partners, and the skilled professionals of Marine Electrical Systems.”

Wärtsilä noted that the Marine Electric Systems business unit had been operating independently to facilitate the divestment process. The completion of the deal is anticipated in the final quarter of 2025, marking a significant milestone for both companies.
