Cierco Energy and Marine Power Systems Partner to Deploy PelaFlex Technology in Offshore Wind Project

Cierco Energy and Marine Power Systems (MPS) have recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on the deployment of MPS’s innovative PelaFlex technology in one of the Llŷr Test and demonstration projects in the Celtic Sea. This partnership marks a significant step towards advancing deepwater offshore wind technology.

The MoU formalizes the strategic alliance between Cierco, with its expertise in offshore wind project development, and MPS, known for its cutting-edge PelaFlex technology solutions designed for deep waters. The Llŷr projects, situated approximately 40 km off the Pembrokeshire coast, will serve as a crucial testing ground for validating and refining deepwater offshore wind technology at a commercial scale before large-scale industrial developments.

Aside from technological advancement, the Llŷr projects are expected to play a key role in bolstering the U.K. supply chains, informing environmental best practices, and streamlining operational and consenting procedures for the broader industry. CEO of Cierco Energy, Scott Harper, emphasized the importance of such initiatives in accelerating the growth of the offshore wind sector and positioning Wales as a hub for renewable energy innovation.

Gareth Stockman, CEO of MPS, highlighted the significance of collaborating with Cierco on the Llŷr project, stating that the partnership will facilitate the journey to commercial scale for the PelaFlex technology. He emphasized that the PelaFlex platform solutions offer a breakthrough in offshore wind energy, particularly in deeper waters where traditional fixed bottom foundations are not economically viable. The technology is designed for industrialization and integration with UK ports, providing tangible value to the supply chain and regional economy.
