NKT Selects Helix Robotic Solutions as Partner for Operating World’s Most Powerful Trencher
NKT has chosen Helix Robotic Solutions as its partner for operating the new T3600 subsea trencher, touted as the world’s most powerful trencher, set to be operational by 2027.
The collaboration between NKT and UK-based Helix Robotic Solutions Limited includes a long-term cooperation and frame agreement covering offshore operation, project engineering, and maintenance of the T3600 subsea trencher. The trencher will be mobilized to a support vessel provided by Helix.
Under the agreement, there is a commitment of 800 days of vessel operations over the initial four years, with options for extension.
The T3600 subsea trencher by NKT will have the capability to deliver 3,600 horsepower for burying cables to depths of up to 5.5 meters below the seabed.
Both NKT and Helix will utilize the Port of Blyth in England as a mobilization, storage, and maintenance base for the subsea trencher due to its strategic location for servicing the North Sea.
Helix’s trenching support vessel will also be equipped with the T1200 Jet Trencher, two work-class remotely operated vehicles (ROVs), a full survey spread, and personnel to support NKT’s offshore cable burial and construction activities.
“We are excited to continue our long-term partnership with Helix and leverage their trenching support vessel and expertise for projects requiring the new trencher. This agreement complements our cutting-edge trenching technology, ensuring reliable deep-burial protection of power cables even in challenging soil conditions,” said Darren Fennell, Executive Vice President and Head of HV Solutions Karlskrona at NKT.
“Through this collaboration, we are also contributing to the local economy by engaging UK companies in the design, development, operation, and maintenance of the trencher.”
